10 things I loveloveLOVE

October 9, 2009 · 6 Comments

1. Getting tickets to Big Day Out ‘10 even though they sold out in 10mins!

2. Re-reading 1984, by George Orwell.

P.S. I want this copy!

3. My Little Golden Book illustrators.

Alice & Martin Provensen

4. Winona Ryder

Does anyone else find it amusing that in Girl Interrupted (released in 1999), she plays a girl in a mental hospital who has Borderline Personality Disorder and asks the audience the question “Have you ever stolen something even though you have the money?” and then two years later she steals $5000 worth of cosmetics even though she had the money?

Ha. But I love her anyway…

5.  The song Talk Show Host, by Radiohead. I’d forgotten about it until I watched Romeo + Juliet again the other night and heard it on the soundtrack.

Last night I listened to it over 30 times in a row. It’s so calming.

6. This article, titled “Radiohead ‘definitely’ planning new album in 2010, says guitarist‎.”

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

7.  Talking to this lovely girl…

8. Getting to dress up as Molly Ringwald! I can’t wait Ana!

9. Air’s new album ‘Love 2′. So wonderful!

10. Taking photos of my and other peoples shoes…I do it a lot for some reason. Ha.

Starting top-left and going around clockwise: Blueprint Festival, Sound Relief, Lily Allen, Little Red.

They were taken at 4 separate gigs!…and I have a million more shoe pics on my computer.

I amuse myself.

Take a Bow

September 24, 2009 · 3 Comments

I really do just love them.

Muse’s new album came out 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it.

It still has the epicness, it still has a few good solos, it has a few songs that make me want to dance like Anthony Michael Hall in ‘Sixteen Candles’, and then it has those beautifulsymphony tracks at the end. The progression they are making makes me think of Radiohead, which is a very good thing.

I was worried when they started playing tracks on Triple J. I love Muse dearly and didn’t want to have to deal with the unpleasantness of one of your favourite bands turning a bit crap.

But once you listen to the whole album, you get it.

And yes, I did cry when I listened to it. I am a little pathetic in that way. Okay, very pathetic.

I hope they come to Australia soon because I am simply dying to hear ‘Uprising’ and ‘Unnatural Selection’ live!

I give it two very enthusiatic thumbs up.

The smell of the warm summer air

August 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I made a new discovery recently.

And that is that God likes Radiohead.
Thom and Jonny

No really, He does!

I’ve been avoiding listening to them a bit lately because I know that they tend to make me a little depressed. All I need to hear is “You and whose army?” on a bad day and I’m gone. But on the way home from work last week I decided to listen to “15 Steps”. But instead of getting all melancholy, I actually felt happy.

This may be a bit hard to understand for people who don’t love music as much as I do, but I have a very deep emotional connection with music. I find it very hard to separate it from myself. Sounds bizarre but that’s just me.

So when I was listening  to “15 Steps”, which really is a cracking song, I was overwhelmed with the urge to dance, scream, cry, curl into a ball, grin like a manic, laugh and do various other embarrassing things that you shouldn’t do at a bus stop. I could feel God. All around me. It is a really hard feeling to explain. But I just knew it was Him. I felt optimistic. I felt joy. For a very brief three minutes, I felt hopeful.

See, God likes them. He used them to speak to me didn’t he?

I don’t like it like this

June 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been feeling really low about everything for a while now.

I can’t really write it myself so I think I’ll let Thom Yorke explain it for me. Although I’m pretty sure this wasn’t what he meant when he wrote it.

Where do we go from here?
The words are coming out all weird
Where are you now when I need you?
Alone on an airplane
Falling asleep against the window pane
My blood will thicken

I need to wash myself again
To hide all the dirt and pain
I’d be scared that there’s nothing underneath
And who are my real friends?
Have they all got the bends?
Am I really sinking this low?

My baby’s got the bends
We don’t have any real friends
I’m just lying in a bar with my drip feed on
Talking to my girlfriend
Waiting for something to happen
And I wish it was the sixties
I wish I could be happy
I wish
I wish
I wish that something would happen

- The Bends, Radiohead

I hope you get my meaning.
